Cynically, I wonder if they would have issued the statement if Chris Coons weren’t so ahead in the polls. Forgive me.

I haven't even looked at the polls. If he has a comfortable lead I may agree with you. I thought she was doing alright though. I haven't paid close attention to the races all over so I'm not sure. That would explain why they refused to do the same for Meg Whitman or any of the other Conservative women who've been attacked in similar ways.

Depends upon what you mean by doing well. Last I looked one poll had the spread around 10 points. Which in fairness does mean she has closed some – Coons was up around 19 points, I think.

In that case, it is easy for NOW to "look good" by coming to the defense of a conservative who has little chance of winning at this point.

Maybe I'd just heard she'd been gaining support or whatever but never saw actual numbers. I know she was a long shot.

I don't remember the details, but it was a 3 way race that went blue for the first time in like 100 years. Is the incumbent Dem running for re-election and have primaries taken place? Is there a chance for a repeat of the same screwball outcome?

Thanks as always for your insight.
Honestly, I have not paid much attention to the race in NY-23. Owens will be the incumbent Democrat who beat Doug Hoffman, who was on the Conservative Party ticket, and Dede Scozzafava (the squishy Republican). This time around the Republican nominee is Matt Doheny and I don’t know much about him. He actually beat Doug Hoffman in the Republican primary; however, Hoffman also is the Conservative Party nominee and has indicated he will continue to campaign. So the short answer to your question is: Yes. NY-23 is setting up to be a three way race, yet again.
Doc, you seemed interested in the NY-23 race. Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate, recently dropped out and asked his supporters to back the GOP nominee Doheny (note: Hoffman will still be on the ballot).

I would take the polling in the article with a grain of salt; however, this is obviously good news for Doheny. It is likely Owens will not go back to Washington.

NRCC: Doheny Up 14 Without Hoffman In NY-23 (Updated)

Hoffman just went up a few notches, respect wise, in my book. I wish him well.
Just to follow up: Owens won in NY-23. Six percent of the district voted for Hoffman, even though he had withdrawn (he was on the ballot) and asked his supporters to back Doheny. This effectively threw the race to Owens. I’m starting to think the district is cursed.
